Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is bracing for an intense spell of heat, with temperatures soaring well above normal levels across the state. The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning of high temperatures in multiple districts until April 24, urging residents to stay alert.
Leading the heat surge, Palakkad is expected to touch a scorching 40°C, while Kollam could reach 39°C. Several districts—including Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod—are likely to experience temperatures up to 37°C, while Thiruvananthapuram may see highs of 36°C.
What makes the situation more severe is that temperatures are predicted to remain 3–4°C above normal, coupled with high humidity levels. This combination is expected to create hot and uncomfortable conditions across most regions, especially in low-lying areas, with only hilly regions offering slight relief.
Authorities have advised the public to take precautions, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor activities during peak daytime hours as Kerala endures this sweltering heatwave-like phase.
