Bengaluru: In a dramatic crackdown, Bengaluru’s Mahadevapura police have arrested Alex Chandy, alias Valli Alex — the brother-in-law of Kerala cricketer Sachin Baby and son of NCP leader Benny Chandy — on charges of rape, intimidation, and blackmail.
After befriending the victim on Instagram, the accused allegedly visited the victim’s home pretending to be a friend, where he sexually assaulted her, blackmailed her, and extorted money from her.
Subsequently, the accused confined and continuously assaulted her for several months, during which he shared her private images online while threatening her with names of powerful individuals and gang members. Police said that Alex was planning an acid attack on the victim before being apprehended.
The investigation team revealed that the Kerala Anti-Narcotics Squad was monitoring Alex, who is currently facing several drug-related cases. Alex is also an accused in the case of embezzling lakhs of rupees from the accused in the NDPS case by posing as an excise officer.
Authorities stated that his drug operations were based around high-end pubs, luxury resorts, and five-star hotels in Kerala and Karnataka. Sources say Alex is a key figure in a cross-border drug network operating between Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. Alex’s main job is to harass officers by filing false complaints against law enforcement officers who are following him.
Known for his manipulative tactics, Alex allegedly used his family and celebrity connections to influence people and evade the law. He often leveraged his link to cricketer Sachin Baby to gain social access, taking photos with influential figures and later using them to carry out fraudulent and illegal activities. The high-profile arrest has shocked Kerala’s social and political circles, uncovering yet another link between celebrity networks and organised crime.
In a previous case of assaulting a woman, Alex had presented a fake mental health certificate to avoid legal proceedings. Police confirm that even Alex’s mental illness certificate is fake, as Alex has not sought any kind of mental treatment in over two years. The court rejected Alex’s family’s attempts to seek bail on the grounds of mental illness and remanded Alex to Bengaluru Central Jail.
