Final Countdown to Polls: Tamil Nadu & West Bengal Wrap Up High-Voltage Campaigns

Tn election

Chennai: The election fever peaks as Tamil Nadu and West Bengal gear up for crucial polling, with campaign activities drawing to a close today. The Election Commission has set 6 PM as the deadline, after which all forms of campaigning—including social media outreach—will come to a complete halt.

In Tamil Nadu, where voting is scheduled for April 23, political parties are making a last-minute push to sway voters. Chief Minister M. K. Stalin will hit the campaign trail from 3 PM, while actor-turned-politician Vijay is set to lead a roadshow in Chennai. Opposition leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami will campaign in Salem and Edappadi. Prominent leaders like Udhayanidhi Stalin and Kanimozhi are also actively rallying support in this decisive final stretch.

In West Bengal, campaigning for the first phase of elections will also conclude today. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with senior BJP leaders, is expected to lead the final leg of high-intensity campaigning.

Polling in West Bengal will take place across 152 of the total 294 constituencies on April 23. Key districts heading to the polls include Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Malda, and Murshidabad—areas known for their electoral significance and, in some cases, sensitivity. To ensure smooth voting, hundreds of central security personnel have been deployed at vulnerable booths.

The second phase of polling in West Bengal is scheduled for April 29, setting the stage for a high-stakes electoral battle in one of India’s most politically charged states.
