Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan inaugurates Aranmula Uthrittathi Vallamkali
ARANMULA: Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated the Aranmula Uthrittathi Vallamkali on the Pamba River on Sunday, describing the traditional boat race as a symbol of Kerala’s rich cultural heritage, devotion and enduring traditions.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-President said the Aranmula Vallamkali, associated with the Onam celebrations and the traditional Vallasadya, embodied the values of teamwork, discipline and sportsmanship.
The sight of elaborately decorated Palliyodams carrying more than a hundred oarsmen rowing in unison reflected the collective spirit and cultural traditions of Kerala, he said.
In the competitions held as part of the Aranmula Uthrittathi Jalolsavam, Melukara won the A Batch, while Kottathoor Kaithakkodi emerged victorious in the B Batch.
The A Batch final witnessed a closely fought contest, with Melukara securing the Mannam Trophy. It was the second consecutive year that Melukara won the coveted trophy.
The annual water festival drew considerable enthusiasm as Palliyodams took part in the traditional race on the Pamba. The synchronised rowing, competitive spirit and colourful boats added to the festive atmosphere at Aranmula.
The Aranmula Uthrittathi Vallamkali remains one of Kerala’s prominent traditional festivals, bringing together cultural heritage, religious traditions and sporting spirit.
