Union Minister of State for Social Justice and National President of the Republican Party of India (A), Ramdas Athawale, has strongly condemned the attempted attack on Chief Justice of India Bhushan Gavai, describing it as “an attack on the Constitution, democracy, and every citizen who believes in justice.”
Athawale demanded that the incident be treated as an act of treason, urging strict and immediate action against the accused. He further alleged that the attack was motivated by caste-based prejudice, as Chief Justice Gavai hails from the Dalit community. “The attacker should also be charged under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act,” he asserted.
“Judiciary is the soul of democracy and the lifeline of our Constitution. Any attack on the Chief Justice is an attack on the very essence of justice and equality in India,” Athawale said.
Athawale further recalled Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s contribution to eradicating caste discrimination through the Constitution but lamented that “casteist mindsets still persist in some individuals.” Calling the act “highly condemnable,” Athawale emphasized that such attempts threaten the foundation of India’s democratic and constitutional values.
