Nursing Is a Sacred Promise to Humanity: Gokulam Gopalan

Thiruvananthapuram: Describing nursing as the living embodiment of compassion, patience, and responsibility, Gokulam Group of Companies Chairman Gokulam Gopalan said the profession represents a sincere and lifelong commitment to human service. Gokulam Gopalan was inaugurating the 17th Lamp Lighting and Oath Taking Ceremony at Sree Gokulam Nursing College.

Lighting the Florence Nightingale lamp, Gokulam Gopalan noted that the flame lit on the occasion does not remain within the walls of the auditorium but reaches countless lives through the selfless service of nurses. Choosing nursing, Gokulam Gopalan said, is a solemn promise to serve humanity, and Gokulam Gopalan congratulated the students for embracing such a noble calling. Gokulam Gopalan also acknowledged the presence of parents, who stood as witnesses with both hope and concern for their children’s future.

Highlighting the unique role of nurses, Gokulam Gopalansaid they care for patients with the love of parents and siblings,and are often regarded as God-like figures by those they serve. Gokulam Gopalan urged students to perform their duties with integrity and compassion, mindful that every action is guided by higher moral responsibility. Nurses, Gokulam Gopalan added, often share a closer bond with patients than doctors, which further underlines the dignity and significance of the profession.

Presiding over the function, Sree Gokulam Healthcare Institution Vice Chairman Dr. K.K. Manojan stressed that scientific knowledge must go hand in hand with human values in building a nursing career. While technology, hospitals, and treatment methods may evolve, compassion for patients and respect for human dignity must always remain the core of nursing.

Professor Archana K. Raj and Professor Gigi P. John, who earned their doctorates from Indore Malwanchal University, were felicitated by the Chairman, who honored them with a ponnada.Both received their doctoral degrees for their subject-focused research in Child Health Nursing and Medical–Surgical Nursing, respectively.

The ceremony was attended by Dean Dr. P. Chandramohan, Nursing Superintendent Colonel T.P. Baby, Dr. Lija R. Nath, Prof. Sulaja V., Chinju P. Nair, Prof. Preetha Carolin, and Anju Dev S.S., who conveyed their best wishes. Principal Lieutenant Colonel Meera K. Pillai delivered the welcome address. College management representatives, faculty members, students, and parents were also present.
