Mumbai: Ordering food online is set to pinch your pocket a little more as Swiggy has increased its platform fee per order, following a similar move by rival Zomato.
Swiggy has raised its platform fee to ₹17.58 per order (including GST), up from ₹14.99—marking a nearly 17% increase. The company says the revision is essential to sustain platform operations and manage rising costs, a message now visible to users within the app.
Zomato had earlier implemented a similar hike, increasing its fee from ₹12.50 to ₹14.90 per order, reflecting a jump of about 19.2%.
Swiggy explained that the additional charge will help cover expenses related to technology infrastructure, app maintenance, and overall service operations, as the food delivery sector continues to evolve.
Meanwhile, new entrant Rapido—which recently ventured into food delivery in Bengaluru with its ‘Ownly’ service—has taken a contrasting approach, stating it will not impose extra platform fees beyond the base delivery charges.
With leading players raising fees, customers may soon feel the impact as convenience comes at a slightly higher price.
