New Delhi: In a historic moment for Delhi, Rekha Gupta is set to be sworn in as the city’s new Chief Minister today at Ramlila Maidan. She will become the fourth woman to hold this position and the first female BJP CM of the national capital. The grand event will witness the presence of top dignitaries, political leaders, and celebrities.
Gupta, a 50-year-old seasoned BJP leader and former student activist, led her party to a decisive victory in the Delhi assembly elections, securing 48 out of 70 seats. This victory marks the BJP’s return to power in Delhi after nearly three decades.
Expressing her gratitude, Gupta has outlined a bold vision for the city, focusing on tackling air and water pollution, enhancing infrastructure, and driving significant reforms in education and healthcare. Her government plans to revamp government schools, provide free healthcare services, ensure free electricity, and introduce a ₹2,500 monthly stipend for underprivileged women.
To promote inclusive governance, the BJP has assembled a diverse cabinet representing Delhi’s varied communities, including Jaat, Sikh, Punjabi, Dalit, and Purvanchali leaders. Key ministers include Parvesh Verma, Manjinder Sirsa, Ashish Sood, Ravinder Indraj Singh, Pankaj Singh, and Kapil Mishra.
With thousands expected to attend the ceremony, Delhi Traffic Police has issued advisories to manage congestion around Ramlila Maidan, urging commuters to plan their travel accordingly.
Gupta’s swearing-in marks a significant step for women in Indian politics. With her appointment, she joins Mamata Banerjee as one of only two female Chief Ministers currently serving in the country.
