Thiruvananthapuram: In a move set to impact households across Kerala, milk prices will increase by ₹4 per litre, with the official announcement expected later today. The state government has given the green light to the proposal put forward by the Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (Milma).
The federation had initially pushed for a ₹6 hike, but the government recommended a more moderate increase of ₹4, which Milma has now accepted. The decision comes with special approval from the Election Commission of India.
With the revision, the price of milk will rise from ₹56 to ₹60 per litre. This marks the first price hike since December 2022, despite repeated requests from regional unions over the past year citing rising production costs.
Currently, dairy farmers receive between ₹45 and ₹52 per litre depending on milk quality. The hike is expected to provide some financial relief to farmers while adding a modest burden on consumers.
The formal announcement will be made following today’s federation meeting in Thiruvananthapuram.
