Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is in the grip of an intense heatwave, with soaring temperatures and rising humidity making daily life increasingly uncomfortable. The highest alert has been sounded in Palakkad, where the mercury is expected to hit a blistering 40°C. The district has already recorded a sweltering 39.2°C.
Temperature warnings have been issued across 12 districts, sparing only the cooler high-range regions of Idukki and Wayanad.
In Kollam, temperatures may surge up to 39°C. Several districts including Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod are likely to experience temperatures up to 37°C. Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram and Malappuram may see highs of around 36°C.
The combination of scorching heat and high humidity is expected to create extremely uncomfortable conditions across most parts of the state, particularly in lowland areas.
Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant—avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours, stay well-hydrated, and protect yourself from direct sunlight to prevent dehydration and heat-related illnesses.
