Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is set to endure a spell of intense summer heat, with the India Meteorological Department issuing a high-temperature alert for 12 districts until Monday.
Palakkad is expected to bear the brunt of the heatwave, with temperatures likely to touch a scorching 40°C—the highest in the state. Kollam could see the mercury rise to 39°C, while Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, and Kozhikode are forecast to record highs of 37°C.
Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram, Malappuram, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts may experience temperatures climbing up to 36°C.
The IMD has warned that the “feels like” temperature could be 2 to 3°C higher than normal, making conditions even more uncomfortable. The mix of soaring temperatures and high humidity is expected to create sweltering weather across most lowland regions, with little relief until early next week.
Authorities urge residents to remain cautious—stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak hours, and take necessary steps to protect against heat-related illnesses as Kerala faces a surge in summer temperatures.
