Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is witnessing an impressive wave of voter participation as polling in the Assembly elections crosses 62% by 3 PM, signaling a potential record-breaking turnout. With 62.71% votes already cast, trends suggest that the final polling percentage could surpass the 80% mark.
From early morning, both cities and villages have reported long queues at polling booths, reflecting high enthusiasm among voters. Particularly strong turnout has been recorded in Ernakulam and the southern districts, while Kannur has seen relatively lower participation.
Voting is taking place across 30,495 booths in all 140 constituencies, with over 27 million voters deciding the state’s political future. The elections follow an intense 23-day campaign involving 883 candidates.
Top political leaders and popular celebrities were among the early voters, including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Opposition Leader V. D. Satheesan, KPCC President Sunny Joseph, BJP state chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar, and film stars Mohanlal, Mammootty, Asif Ali, Mukesh, and Kunchacko Boban, all of whom cast their votes early in the day.
Despite a few minor incidents, polling has remained largely peaceful across the state. With momentum building steadily, Kerala is heading towards a decisive and possibly historic electoral verdict.
