Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is set for a spell of turbulent weather as the India Meteorological Department predicts isolated thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds until Sunday.
Wind speeds are expected to intensify from tomorrow, reaching up to 40–50 km/h, raising concerns over potential damage and safety risks. Authorities have issued a strong warning about lightning, highlighting its threat to human life, animals, electrical systems, communication networks, and household appliances. Residents are urged to stay alert and take necessary precautions.
At the same time, soaring temperatures are adding to the discomfort. Palakkad is reeling under intense heat, with mercury levels likely to touch 40°C. Districts including Kollam, Kottayam, and Thrissur may see temperatures climb to around 38°C.
Other regions such as Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, and Kannur are expected to record highs of 37°C, while Thiruvananthapuram, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Kasaragod may hover around 36°C.
With temperatures rising 2–3°C above normal and humidity levels remaining high, the state is likely to experience hot, sultry, and uncomfortable conditions, particularly in non-hilly areas. Officials continue to advise the public to remain cautious amid the dual threat of heat and thunderstorms.
