Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is likely to witness isolated rain showers in the coming hours, bringing brief relief from the scorching heat. Weather alerts have been issued for several districts including Kollam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kannur, Kasaragod, and Kozhikode, where strong winds of up to 40 km/h are also expected. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds may occur in isolated areas over the next two days, prompting authorities to urge residents to stay cautious during adverse weather conditions.
Despite the possibility of rain, heatwave conditions continue to grip the state, with Palakkad recording this year’s highest temperature at 38.9°C. A yellow alert has been declared in 12 districts as temperatures are expected to rise up to 3°C above normal. Officials have issued health advisories, urging people to avoid direct sun exposure between 11 AM and 3 PM, stay hydrated, and take special care of vulnerable groups including children, the elderly, and pregnant women as Kerala faces a mix of intense heat and sudden weather changes.
