Kochi: Gold prices in Kerala have taken a steep hit, registering a dramatic fall once again. In a single day, the price of one sovereign (8 grams) has dropped by ₹2,040, bringing the rate down to ₹1,13,400. On a per gram basis, prices declined by ₹255, with one gram now priced at ₹14,175. The sudden dip has caught the attention of investors and buyers alike.
Earlier this month, gold had touched ₹1,26,920 per sovereign—the highest level recorded during this period—after a surge driven by tensions in West Asia. However, the trend has since reversed sharply, with prices plunging by over ₹13,000 in just 18 days. Global factors, including increased gold purchases by central banks as a safe-haven asset, continue to influence the market. Notably, the all-time high of ₹1,31,160 was recorded on January 29, while December 23 marked the first time gold prices crossed the ₹1 lakh milestone per sovereign.
