Kerala to Distribute 65,000 More Priority Ration Cards; Seven Lakh Families Benefited in Five Years

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government is set to distribute 65,000 more priority ration cards within a week, further expanding food security coverage for eligible families. Earlier in January, more than 35,000 cards had already been issued. The new allotment will be made after fast-tracking the verification of online applications submitted up to February 24, officials from the Food Department said.

The initiative is part of a drive to ensure that ration benefits reach the truly deserving. Through voluntary surrender and a special inspection campaign called “Operation Yellow,” cards held by ineligible beneficiaries have been reclaimed and reassigned. With the latest distribution, the total number of priority ration cards issued during the tenure of the LDF government will reach around seven lakh. Among the 6.35 lakh cards already distributed, about 60,000 are AAY (yellow) cards, while the remaining are PHH (pink) cards. Beneficiaries under the AAY category receive 30 kg of rice per month free of cost, while PHH cardholders are entitled to 4 kg of rice per person along with 5 kg of wheat, ensuring continued support for vulnerable households.
