Thiruvananthapuram: Dr. Rajeev Menon, Secretary-General of the Republican Party of India (RPI), has urged authorities to register a case against renowned filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The demand comes in response to allegedly derogatory remarks made by the filmmaker, which, according to Dr. Menon, insulted the Dalit community and women.
Reacting strongly, Dr. Rajeev Menon—who also serves as the national secretary of the party—stated, “The time has come to bring Adoor Gopalakrishnan, who has lost his sense of reason, under the chains of law. His remarks, which insulted Dalit women, are a disgrace to Kerala society.”
Dr. Rajeev Menon added that Gopalakrishnan’s comments seem to be a retaliatory move against those who stood up in the nun abuse case, calling them a reflection of a deeply rooted upper-caste (Savarna) mentality.
In a sharp critique, Dr. Menon said, “Adoor Gopalakrishnan, who made films that even Malayalis couldn’t understand and relied on quota systems to win awards, should start training himself at home before interfering in matters concerning the Dalit community.”
Dr. Rajeev Menon concluded by demanding a public apology from the filmmaker. If Gopalakrishnan fails to do so, he warned that the party will move forward with legal action.
