Thiruvananthapuram: Republican Party of India (RPI) National Secretary General Dr. Rajeev Menon has demanded stringent action under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against Kerala police officials who allegedly falsely accused an innocent Dalit woman of theft, subjected her to mental torture, and stripped her during illegal custody.
The incident occurred on April 23 at Peroorkada Police Station, where the victim, R. Bindu, was summoned without proper evidence or investigation. According to reports, she was denied even basic human rights such as access to drinking water and was forcibly strip-searched — a gross violation of legal and ethical norms.
“This horrifying incident rips the mask off Kerala’s so-called progressive image,” said Dr. Menon, slamming the state government and Chief Minister for turning a blind eye while atrocities are committed under their watch. He accused the CM of using Dalit welfare only as a propaganda tool, citing the government’s failure to respond when Bindu personally came to the Secretariat seeking justice.
Dr. Menon highlighted multiple legal violations, including detaining a woman overnight in a police station and failing to inform her family — both against established law. Despite the allegedly stolen gold chain being later found in the same house, police have not withdrawn the FIR, which falsely states that Bindu confessed.
“This is not just a miscarriage of justice — it’s state-enabled humiliation,” Menon said, demanding immediate registration of a criminal case against the responsible officers and prosecution without delay.
The case has sparked fresh concerns over police brutality, caste-based discrimination, and the lack of accountability within Kerala’s law enforcement system.
