Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is grappling with an intense rise in temperatures, with a potential heatwave predicted over the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that temperatures may rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius above normal, causing concerns for public health and safety.
To tackle the heat, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has urged citizens to take precautions, and the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has issued guidelines for local bodies to implement heat action plans. With some areas already experiencing temperatures as high as 40°C—well above the usual February averages—authorities are advising residents to stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight, wear light clothing, and watch for symptoms of heat-related illnesses.
As the heatwave continues to intensify, officials are calling for community vigilance and proactive safety measures to mitigate the risks posed by extreme temperatures.
