New Delhi: In a major boost to digital convenience, WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature that allows users to recharge their prepaid mobile connections directly within the app—removing the need to rely on platforms like Google Pay or PhonePe.
Developed in partnership with a Netherlands-based payments company, the new system enables seamless mobile recharges without leaving the chat interface. The feature will soon be available for both Android and iOS users across India.
Subscribers of major telecom operators such as Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea can easily browse and select their preferred prepaid plans and complete recharges instantly.
This move is part of WhatsApp’s aggressive expansion strategy in India, where it is steadily transforming into an all-in-one digital platform. Beyond messaging, the app already supports services like bill payments, metro ticket bookings, and access to government services through chatbots.
With this latest addition, WhatsApp is positioning itself as a powerful rival in India’s booming digital payments space, aiming to bring everyday services into one simple, familiar interface.
