Nationwide ‘Black Day’ Call: Trade Unions Gear Up for Massive Protest Against Labour Codes

New Delhi: India is set to witness widespread labour unrest on Wednesday as central trade unions prepare to observe a nationwide “Black Day” in protest against the Union government’s controversial labour codes.

Leading organizations such as the Centre of Indian Trade Unions, All India Trade Union Congress, and Indian National Trade Union Congress, along with several independent workers’ groups, have united for the protest, signaling a strong collective pushback.

The demonstration follows a massive all-India strike on February 12 that reportedly mobilized nearly 300 million workers. Despite this unprecedented show of strength, unions claim the government has not taken steps to withdraw or reconsider the labour reforms.

Workers across sectors are expected to wear black badges, raise black flags, and stage protests at workplaces. Demonstrations, sit-ins during lunch hours, and bike and cycle rallies are also planned to amplify their demands.

Adding momentum to the agitation, the Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch has extended solidarity, reflecting growing support for the movement beyond traditional labour groups.
