Centre Issues Safety Alert: Petrol Pumps Told Not to Fill Fuel in Containers

New Delhi: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has issued a strict advisory to fuel stations across India not to supply petrol or diesel in containers, warning that transporting or storing fuel in unsafe vessels could lead to serious accidents.

The advisory comes amid growing concerns linked to tensions in West Asia, with the ministry reassuring the public that petrol and diesel are available in sufficient quantities at retail outlets nationwide.

In a message shared on social media, the ministry urged consumers not to carry or store fuel in inappropriate containers, stating that such practices pose major safety risks.

The warning follows an incident at a petrol pump in Tamil Nadu where fuel was reportedly being dispensed in an unsafe manner. Authorities said strict action has been taken, and the petrol pump involved has been temporarily shut down.

Fuel stations across the country have now been directed to strictly adhere to safety guidelines while dispensing fuel, and the ministry warned that any violation of these norms will invite stringent action.
