New Delhi: In an unprecedented move, the opposition alliance INDIA alliance has submitted notices in both houses of Parliament seeking the impeachment of Gyanesh Kumar. The notices were filed separately in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, with 130 MPs signing the Lok Sabha notice and 63 MPs backing the Rajya Sabha motion.

This marks the first time in India’s parliamentary history that a notice has been moved to remove a Chief Election Commissioner. Leaders from all parties within the INDIA bloc have supported the initiative. The Aam Aadmi Party, though not formally part of the alliance, has also backed the move, along with several independent MPs. The opposition has levelled seven key allegations against the election chief, including claims of bias, discriminatory conduct, and allegedly obstructing investigations into electoral irregularities, while also accusing him of taking decisions favouring the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.
