45% of Kerala’s Population at Risk of Lifestyle Diseases, Govt Survey Reveals

Kerala Public Health

Thiruvananthapuram: A recent government survey has revealed that 45% of Kerala’s population is at risk of lifestyle diseases, highlighting a major public health concern in the state. The findings are based on a screening programme conducted by the state health department under the ‘Aardram’ health mission in two phases.

The screening initiative aimed to detect hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and other lifestyle-related disorders among residents. The study underscores the growing health burden posed by sedentary lifestyles, unhealthy diets, and lack of physical activity.

Authorities have emphasized the need for stronger preventive measures, including awareness campaigns, improved public healthcare infrastructure, and lifestyle modification programs. The government is expected to introduce new policies to tackle the rising prevalence of lifestyle diseases and promote preventive healthcare across the state.
