Without fanfare and grandeur, ‘Amritavarsham 71’: Amma to arrive on her birthday with more aid announcements to wipe the tears of the afflicted in Wayanad; various service projects to be inaugurated at the ashram

On the occasion of Mata Amritanandamayi’s 71st birthday, the programs for the devotees have started. The ashram has decided to avoid elaborate celebrations this time due to the calamities in areas including Wayanad. By completely avoiding the pomp and ceremony, ‘Amritavarsah 71’ will see the inauguration of many service activities and distribution of aid. However, the usual traditional Guru Puja and Pada Puja rituals will be performed. Additionally, the ashram will organize mass weddings for young men and women from underprivileged families. Amma has contributed crores of rupees in the past years to improve public sanitation standards in Kerala. This year, too, more aid announcements are expected. Amma has always been at the forefront in helping rehabilitate and support the victims of natural disasters. The ashram is also working to install modern systems to issue disaster warnings in landslide-prone areas of Wayanad. Scientists from the ashram are collaborating with central government directives for this effort. The 71st birthday celebrations will focus on those in distress, with simplicity and minimal fanfare.

The main rituals will take place on Amma’s birthday, September 27. Assistance for families affected by the Wayanad landslides continues under the trust’s leadership, and more projects will be implemented as part of ‘Amritavarsham 71’. This year’s birthday event will be organized at the ashram without a chief guest. Amma’s new aid and service announcements are expected to support the weaker sections of society and provide relief for those suffering. Amma has always advocated for and personally worked to meet the five basic needs of people. food, shelter, healthcare, education, and employment. The various institutions under Amma’s leadership, which engage in social and poverty alleviation work, will be emphasized during the ceremony. Additionally, the Amrita Keerthi award ceremony will be held. While over 300,000 devotees attended last year’s birthday celebrations, this time, the number is expected to be under 20,000. Nonetheless, devotees from various states and countries will arrive to see Amma.

Meanwhile, during Amma’s 70th birthday celebrations, actor Mohanlal had attended the event. Several prominent figures from different countries also participated in the ceremonies at the Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham campus. Mohanlal spent significant time with Amma during the celebrations and actively participated in the Pada Pooja ritual. Photos and videos of Amma joyfully embracing and blessing Mohanlal went viral among fans. This time, however, the likelihood of VIPs attending the event is very low.
