Thiruvananthapuram: Children seeking admission to public schools for the new academic year will not be denied entry due to lack of documents. The Education Department has directed that even children of migrant workers and expatriates can be admitted without documents such as birth certificates or Aadhaar.
Admissions to government, aided, and recognized unaided schools following the state syllabus will begin on May 2. Children without required documents will be given temporary admission until they can produce them. The department has also instructed that no admission tests should be conducted.
However, if the required documents are not submitted by the sixth day of school reopening, during the official student count process, those students will not be included in the count.
Last year, several schools faced difficulties in staff allocation because many students were not counted due to the non-uploading of Aadhaar details. Later, the deadline was extended to resolve the issue.
