Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is bracing for intense heat as the India Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow Alert in 12 districts, warning of soaring temperatures that could rise up to 4°C above normal levels until Friday.
The worst-hit region is Palakkad, where the temperature is expected to spike to a scorching 40°C. Close behind, Kollam may record 39°C, while Kottayam could see highs of 38°C.
Several districts—including Alappuzha, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod—are likely to experience temperatures around 37°C. Meanwhile, Thiruvananthapuram is expected to touch 36°C.
Meteorologists caution that the combination of high temperatures and humidity will lead to uncomfortable and oppressive weather conditions across most parts of the state, especially in lowland areas. Hilly regions may see slight relief.
With temperatures significantly above seasonal averages, authorities urge people to take precautions—stay hydrated, avoid direct sunlight during peak hours, and watch for signs of heat-related illness.
Kerala continues to remain under a heat grip, with no immediate relief in sight.
