Kochi: Celebrations of Akshaya Tritiya turned truly golden in Kerala as the state recorded a staggering ₹1,260 crore in gold sales, with nearly 900 kilograms of gold sold in just one day. According to the All Kerala Gold and Silver Merchants Association, around 12,000 jewellery outlets across the state witnessed heavy footfall, reflecting the strong cultural and financial significance of the festival.
Traders attributed the surge to the auspicious nature of the day, widely believed to bring prosperity and good fortune. Adding to the momentum was the stability in gold prices, which offered much-needed relief to buyers and encouraged more purchases.
General Secretary S. Abdul Nasser noted that the absence of price hikes played a crucial role in driving record-breaking sales.
