Thiruvananthapuram: Battling an intense summer heatwave, Kerala has witnessed an unprecedented surge in electricity consumption, setting a new all-time record. For the first time ever, the state’s evening peak power demand skyrocketed to 5,933 megawatts.
In just one day, power usage touched a staggering 112.16 million units—the highest recorded so far this month—highlighting the growing strain on the energy sector.
The spike was most pronounced during evening peak hours, as residents increasingly relied on air conditioners, coolers, and other appliances to cope with the sweltering temperatures.
Officials have issued an urgent appeal to the public to conserve electricity, especially between 6 PM and 11 PM, to avoid a potential power crisis.
With the heat showing no signs of easing, authorities warn that responsible energy use is crucial to maintaining a stable power supply across the state.
