Heatwave Alert in Kerala: Yellow Warning Across 8 Districts Till Thursday

Temperature

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is bracing for a fresh spell of rising temperatures, as the India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert in eight districts, effective from today until Thursday.

After a short period of relief brought by recent rains, the heat is making a strong comeback. Palakkad is expected to be the hottest, with temperatures soaring up to 38°C. Kollam, Kottayam, and Thrissur may see highs of 37°C, while Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, and Ernakulam are likely to touch 36°C.

Officials warn that temperatures could remain 2–3°C above normal, intensifying discomfort levels. The mix of high heat and humidity is expected to create oppressive weather conditions, particularly in low-lying areas, while hilly regions may experience relatively cooler climates.

Authorities urge residents to take precautions, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor exposure during peak hours as Kerala heads into a hot and humid stretch leading up to polling day.
