Kerala to Get Relief from Scorching Heat as Summer Rains Begin; Thunderstorm Alert in 12 Districts

Rain 4

Thiruvananthapuram: After enduring days of intense summer heat, Kerala is finally set to receive much-needed relief as summer showers are expected to begin from today. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted isolated rainfall across the state, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

Gusty winds with speeds ranging between 30 and 40 kmph are also likely, adding to the changing weather conditions. While the rains may bring temporary relief, authorities have cautioned residents to stay alert due to the risk of lightning strikes.

Meanwhile, high-temperature warnings remain in place. Districts such as Kollam, Kottayam, and Palakkad are expected to experience temperatures soaring up to 38°C. Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, and Kannur may see temperatures touching 37°C, while Thiruvananthapuram, Malappuram, and Kasaragod could reach up to 36°C.

A yellow alert has been issued in 12 districts as temperatures are likely to stay 2–3°C above normal levels. The combination of high heat and humidity is expected to create uncomfortable weather conditions, particularly in lowland areas.

Officials have urged the public to exercise caution, as thunderstorms and lightning can pose serious risks.
