LPG Rationing in Kerala Amid West Asia Crisis; Hotels Get Only 40% Supply

Gas cylinder

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala has introduced strict curbs on LPG distribution following nationwide supply disruptions triggered by the West Asia conflict. Acting on central government directives, the Kerala Civil Supplies Department has announced that commercial establishments, including hotels and restaurants, will now receive only 40% of their usual LPG cylinder allocation, offering limited relief to the hospitality sector already under pressure.

To manage the crisis, authorities have prioritized essential services such as hospitals, anganwadis, schools, crematoriums, hostels, and community kitchens, ensuring they receive adequate supply. Key sectors like pharmaceuticals, fisheries, railways, and airline catering will be allotted up to 70% of their requirements. Businesses have also been urged to shift to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) wherever City Gas Distribution networks are available, while an online portal has been launched to handle emergency LPG requests efficiently.
