Kochi: Gold prices in Kerala took a sharp dip today, falling by ₹800 per sovereign in a single session. Despite the sudden drop, the precious metal continues to trade comfortably above the ₹1.14 lakh mark, reflecting ongoing volatility in the market.The price of one sovereign (8 grams) now stands at ₹1,14,520, while the per gram rate is ₹14,315.
The latest decline follows a turbulent week for gold. On Monday and Tuesday alone, prices had fallen by more than ₹2,500 per sovereign. However, a brief rebound yesterday afternoon pushed rates up to ₹1,15,320, before today’s fresh correction pulled prices lower again.
Earlier this month, gold touched ₹1,17,760 per sovereign, the highest rate recorded so far in February. The lowest price this month was ₹1,07,920, logged on the 2nd. The all-time record remains ₹1,31,160 per sovereign, set on January 29. Notably, December 23 marked a historic milestone when gold prices crossed the ₹1 lakh threshold for the first time.
Market experts say the current ups and downs are largely driven by fluctuations in global markets, currency movements, and shifting investor sentiment. For now, gold continues to glitter above ₹1.14 lakh—even as prices swing sharply from day to day.
