Ramadan Begins Today: A Month of Mercy, Devotion and Spiritual Renewal

Ramadan

Thiruvananthapuram: The sacred month of Ramadan has begun today, ushering in a period of deep spiritual reflection, self-discipline, and renewed faith for Muslims across the state. With messages of sacrifice, patience, and brotherhood, believers have stepped into the holy month, transforming mosques and homes into spaces filled with prayer and devotion for the next thirty days.

As the crescent moon was not sighted, the month of Sha’ban was completed with 30 days before the commencement of fasting. In Islamic tradition, the first ten days of Ramadan are regarded as days of mercy, the next ten as days of forgiveness, and the final ten as days of salvation.

Special Ramadan prayers commenced in mosques last night, with large numbers of devotees participating in the spiritually uplifting Taraweeh prayers. Throughout the month, mosques will host extended prayers and Qur’an recitations, while Iftar gatherings promoting communal harmony will be organized in various parts of the state.

Ramadan also begins today in Oman, while other Gulf nations started observing the fast yesterday.

Even amid the scorching summer heat, the spirit of devotion remains undeterred. Markets have come alive with brisk activity as families prepare for Iftar, marking the beginning of a month dedicated to faith, charity, and unity.
