Thiruvananthapuram: Popular Malayalam actor Maniyanpilla Raju was arrested by the Thiruvananthapuram Museum Police on Thursday in connection with a road accident at Vazhuthacaud that left two youths seriously injured. The actor appeared before the police at around 9.30 am, following which his arrest was formally recorded. Maniyanpilla Raju was taken to the Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital for a medical examination, where Maniyanpilla Raju informed officials that he is suffering from health issues, including chikungunya.
Police have booked the actor under bailable sections, including rash and negligent driving, failure to provide first aid, fleeing the accident scene, and not informing the police. Officials said further charges may be added if medical tests confirm alcohol consumption at the time of the accident. The mishap occurred around 9.45 pm on Wednesday when the car driven by Maniyanpilla Raju allegedly rammed into a motorcycle carrying Nived Krishna and Suraj, dragging the bike for some distance. Both victims sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a private hospital.
