Thiruvananthapuram: President Draupadi Murmu is all set for a power-packed day in Kerala, marking a series of historic and cultural milestones on Thursday.
The President will begin her day at 10 a.m. by unveiling the statue of former President K. R. Narayanan at the Raj Bhavan premises in Thiruvananthapuram, honouring India’s first Dalit President and one of Kerala’s most distinguished statesmen.
Following the ceremony, President Murmu will head to Varkala, where she will inaugurate the two-year-long centenary celebrations of Sree Narayana Guru’s Mahasamadhi, a tribute to the revered spiritual and social reformer who championed equality and enlightenment. The inauguration will take place at the Sivagiri Pilgrimage Conference Auditorium, the spiritual hub associated with Guru’s legacy.
The President is scheduled to arrive at the Varkala helipad at 12:40 p.m., reach the Sree Narayana Guru Mahasamadhi site by 12:50 p.m., and attend the commemorative event till 1:30 p.m.
Among the key dignitaries attending are Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Ministers V. N. Vasavan and V. Sivankutty, BJP State President Rajeev Chandrasekhar, and V. Joy, MLA. Security arrangements have been intensified, with DIG Ajitha Beegum leading an extensive review at both the Sivagiri premises and helipad.
Later in the day, at 4:15 p.m., President Murmu will inaugurate the Platinum Jubilee valedictory celebrations of St. Thomas College, Pala, one of Kerala’s most prominent higher education institutions.
On Friday at 12:10 p.m., she will attend the centenary celebrations of St. Teresa’s College, Ernakulam, before departing from Kochi to New Delhi, concluding her Kerala visit.
The President’s visit underscores the rich spiritual and educational heritage of Kerala, bridging the state’s reformist past with its progressive present.
