Twin Low-Pressure Systems to Stir Bay of Bengal; Kerala on Alert for Heavy Rains

Cyclone

Thiruvananthapuram: Weather activity over the Bay of Bengal is set to intensify, with Kerala bracing for spells of rain in the coming days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported a low-pressure system over Gangetic West Bengal, northern Odisha, and adjoining northwestern Bay of Bengal, which is likely to weaken within 24 hours.

However, a fresh low-pressure system is expected to form over the east-central and northeast Bay tomorrow. IMD forecasts that it may strengthen into a deep depression by September 26 near the north Andhra Pradesh–south Odisha coasts and make landfall a day later.

As a result, Kerala is likely to witness light to moderate rainfall over the next five days, with isolated heavy showers on September 25, 26, and 27. A yellow alert has been issued for Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, and Thrissur districts tomorrow.

Fishermen have been cautioned against venturing into the sea as rough conditions are expected.
