Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is set to witness history as football icon Lionel Messi and the Argentina national team arrive this November, fulfilling a dream millions of fans have cherished for decades. The moment has been made possible by the timely and determined intervention of Gokulam Group Chairman, Gokulam Gopalan.
After months of speculation, the Argentina Football Association officially confirmed the visit, crediting Gopalan’s last-minute efforts. A lifelong football enthusiast, Gokulam Gopalan leveraged his long-standing global sporting ties to make Kerala the next stop for the reigning world champions.
“It gives me immense joy to have played a role in bringing the greatest legend of football, Lionel Messi, to Kerala. This is a dream come true for fans who have waited for years,” Gokulam Gopalan said.
Messi’s arrival will mark his first visit to India since 2011, adding to the anticipation. The Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram will host Argentina’s international friendly, a match expected to be a milestone in Indian football history.
Hinting at more surprises, Gopalan revealed that Gokulam FC may play a friendly match against Messi’s Argentina side, calling the occasion a “transformative moment” for Kerala football.
