Dubai: Tensions in West Asia escalated dramatically after a suspected Iranian drone strike targeted a major Kuwaiti oil tanker, Al Salmi, while it was anchored at Dubai port. The incident has raised serious concerns over maritime security and environmental risks in the region.

The attack, confirmed by the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, occurred around 12:10 a.m. local time. A fire broke out onboard following the strike, causing visible damage to the vessel.

Despite the intensity of the incident, all 24 crew members aboard the tanker were reported safe, bringing a measure of relief amid the crisis.

Authorities have warned of a possible oil spill, as the vessel was carrying a significant quantity of crude oil at the time of the attack. Emergency teams are working around the clock to contain the fire and prevent further damage.

The strike is the latest in a string of attacks on oil tankers since the recent escalation of conflicts in West Asia, underlining growing instability in one of the world’s most critical energy corridors.
