Los Angeles: The 98th Academy Awards witnessed a spectacular night for One Battle After Another, which dominated the ceremony by winning six major awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for acclaimed filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.
The film also secured Oscars for Best Editing, Best Supporting Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Casting, making it the biggest winner of the night.
In the acting categories, Michael B. Jordan won the Best Actor award for his powerful performance in Sinners, while Jessie Buckley was named Best Actress for her role in Hamnet. During an emotional acceptance speech, Buckley dedicated her award to “the turbulent hearts of mothers.” Jordan reacted to his win with a brief but heartfelt message: “God is good.”
The ceremony also marked a historic moment as cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw became the first woman to win the Oscar for Best Cinematography, for her work on Sinners.
Veteran actor Sean Penn won Best Supporting Actor for his role in One Battle After Another, while Amy Madigan took home Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Weapons.
Among other major winners, KPop Demon Hunters claimed the Best Animated Feature award, while The Girl Who Cried Pearls won Best Animated Short Film.
The Best Visual Effects Oscar went to Avatar: Fire and Ash. Meanwhile, director Ryan Coogler earned the Best Original Screenplay award for Sinners.
In the Best Live-Action Short Film category, The Singers and Two People Exchanging Saliva shared the honor.
In technical categories, Cassandra Kulukundis won Best Casting for One Battle After Another. The Best Makeup and Hairstyling award went to Mike Hill, Jordan Samuel, and Cleone Furey for Frankenstein, while Kate Hawley won Best Costume Design for the same film.
The night celebrated cinematic excellence with memorable wins, historic milestones, and emotional speeches that highlighted the power of storytelling on the global stage.
