Dr. B. Padmakumar, advancing from the role of Professor in the Department of Medicine at Alappuzha Government T.D. Medical College to Principal of Kollam Government Medical College, has been a beacon of strength, care, and relief for countless patients. As the popular doctor Padmakumar touched the patients who approached him in pain with a smile of humility, love and consolation, the comfort they felt was indescribable. For over twenty-five years, Dr. Padmakumar has dedicated himself to medical service with a heartfelt commitment.

In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Padmakumar was honored with the State Government’s Best Doctor Award in 2011. He is not just a doctor but also a singer, writer, orator, and artist, making his mark in various fields. Despite his busy schedule, he earned a Ph.D. in General Medicine and authored approximately thirty health-related books. He won first place in Light Music at the Kerala University Youth Festival and often soothes his patients with music in addition to medicine. His extraordinary eloquence allows him to captivate and inspire any audience. He is also deeply committed to disseminating his knowledge through print and visual media as well as health publications.

Born in 1963 to K.P. Balasundaran and Bhanumati Amma in Mavelikkara, Dr. Padmakumar completed his schooling at T.D. School in Alappuzha. He graduated with first rank in B.Sc. Zoology from Kerala University in 1983, earned his M.B.B.S. with a gold medal in 1990, and completed his M.D. (Medicine) with first rank from Marathwada University in 1995. He received his research degree from Kerala University in 2016 and has published numerous medical books, papers, and articles. He also served as the General Editor of the extensive medical encyclopedia ‘Sarvaroga Vijnanakosham’ published by DC Books.

During the Sabarimala pilgrimage season, Dr. Padmakumar voluntarily conducts a medical camp for the elderly, a commitment he never misses, regardless of the distance. He has been actively present in hospitals, camps, and phone-in programs during crises such as floods, COVID-19, and Chikungunya outbreaks. To those who seek his care, Dr. Padmakumar is more than a physician; he is a source of comfort as a son, brother, and friend. His view of medical service as a miraculous and divine calling has provided solace to thousands.
