Gokulam Gopalan is the owner of numerous businesses spread across India. Known affectionately as ‘Gopalettan,’ he has left an indelible mark in business, industry, and social and cultural spheres for over half a century, both within Kerala and beyond. Now, Kerala offers a heartfelt love to this industrial giant who embodies both compassion and humility. Gopalan’s story is one of struggle and hard work before he became the globally recognized Gokulam Gopalan. He has achieved his life’s greatest dreams, building temples, educational institutions, and hospitals, and continues to move forward.

Born in 1944 in Vadakara, Kerala, Gopalan grew up with the goal of securing an education and a job, as he did not come from a wealthy family. While pursuing his MSc, he moved to Chennai as part of his studies. During his job search, a doctor offered him a position as a medical representative, yet financial challenges persisted. He then realized that a type of chit fund, popular in his hometown but absent in Chennai, could be introduced there. In 1968, he humbly founded Shri Gokulam Chits & Finance with just ten members and monthly installments of Rs. 100. The venture soon flourished into a vast empire. Thanks to his hard work and perseverance, Gokulam Chits & Finance Pvt Ltd now boasts 460 branches across India. Recognizing the importance of education, he also established educational institutions, starting with one in his native Vadakara. Today, he owns 21 educational institutions across Kerala and Chennai.

Gopalan, the industrial magnate, is affectionately called ‘Gopalettan.’ He is known for his unique approach of treating everyone equally, showing no discrimination toward his employees, and building strong personal bonds with them. As a symbol of love and compassion, a large part of his life has been devoted to charitable activities, assisting the less fortunate. For several years, he has carried out various initiatives aimed at uplifting the marginalized in society. A true disciple of Sree Narayana Guru, he believes in sharing the sorrows and struggles of others. From his beginnings with Gokulam Chits, Gopalan now proudly oversees a global business empire.

Beyond being a South Indian industrialist, Gopalan is also the producer of several blockbuster films. His production company, Shri Gokulam Movies, recently distributed Manjummal Boys, which became the first Malayalam film to gross over Rs. 200 crore. Gopalan first garnered attention as the producer of the debut directorial venture of Tamil superstar Vijay’s father, Chandrasekhar. He has also acted in films like Nethaji, Pathonpatham Noottandu, and Pakallum Paathiravum. Alongside his achievements in the film industry, Gokulam Group holds a prominent position in the fast-growing Malayalam television sector. His success in both film production and distribution is entirely self-made.
