Dr. Rajeev Menon, the National General Secretary of the Republican Party, has raised the demand for conducting the Civil Services Preliminary Test in Malayalam. Currently, the preliminary examination questions are available only in English and Hindi. Dr. Rajeev Menon submitted a petition to the Prime Minister requesting the inclusion of Malayalam along with these languages. He emphasized that only by facilitating the preliminary exams in regional languages can all groups of people be able to take the exam.
The main examination can be written in regional languages, including Malayalam. The UPSC provides the facility to participate in interviews in regional languages. According to statistics, over 400 students from Kerala qualify for the mains examination each year. The trend indicates that the preliminary exam is becoming increasingly difficult each year. With the number of applicants rising, competition is also increasing. Dr. Rajeev Menon mentioned that due to the unpredictability and uncertain nature of the exam, many candidates face difficulties at this stage.
