Kerala Sizzles Under Relentless Heatwave; 12 Districts on High Alert

Temp 1

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is in the grip of an intense heatwave, with soaring temperatures prompting warnings across 12 districts, sparing only Wayanad and Idukki. The sweltering conditions are expected to continue at least until Sunday, raising concerns over public health and daily life.

The heat is set to peak in Palakkad, where temperatures could touch a scorching 40°C. Kollam may see highs of 39°C, while Kottayam is likely to reach 38°C.

The India Meteorological Department has warned that districts including Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod could experience temperatures climbing up to 37°C—around 2 to 3 degrees above normal levels.

A yellow alert has been issued in all affected districts, cautioning residents about the combined impact of high temperatures and humidity, which may lead to extremely uncomfortable weather conditions, especially in lowland areas.

Adding to the concern, isolated parts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Palakkad, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod may witness thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h.

Authorities urge people to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours, and take necessary precautions as Kerala braces for a tough spell of summer heat.
