Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala must continue advancing its health sector through greater modernization to maintain its global reputation for excellence, said Public Works Minister Mohammed Riyas. Minister was speaking at the inauguration of the GalaTheon Grand Finale 2025, hosted by Gokulam Medical College, one of Kerala’s leading medical institutions.
Highlighting the crucial role of young doctors in shaping the state’s healthcare future, the minister said, “The responsibility of protecting public health rests in the hands of our young doctors. Newly graduating doctors must uphold social responsibility and serve people with compassion.”
Minister voiced concern over the rise in premature deaths among young people since the COVID-19 pandemic and noted an alarming increase in depression cases — including among medical students.
Commending the Sparsham Project by the Gokulam Group, the minister praised it as a “model initiative of compassion” for senior citizens. “We must tap into the knowledge and experience of our elderly population. Retired professionals from government, agriculture, and other sectors can continue to contribute meaningfully to society,” minister said.
Gokulam Gopalan, Chairman of Gokulam Group, said GalaTheon and GalaCon were designed to encourage young minds to explore the limitless frontiers of medical science and to create public awareness on health and modern innovations. Gokulam Gopalan emphasized that Gokulam Medical College aims to strengthen research and produce doctors committed to community health and service.
Vice Chairman Dr. K.K. Manojan urged budding doctors to balance their professional growth with self-care. Describing GalaTheon as “a celebration of knowledge, creativity, and compassion,” Dr. K.K. Manojan said Kerala’s health model continues to inspire the world. “The central and state governments are taking notable steps in healthcare, and Gokulam Medical College stands out for its student-centered initiatives, including seminars and health festivals,” Dr. K.K. Manojan added.
The event also featured Gokulam Healthcare Institution Managing Director Sheeja G. Manojan, MLA D.K. Murali, and Dr. S.S. Lal among the dignitaries. Sreehari S. Kurup delivered the welcome address.
