Thiruvananthapuram: K.M. Shajahan, former aide and disciple of veteran CPI(M) leader V.S. Achuthanandan, has described the latest legal developments in the Exalogic case as a significant moment in his long-running fight against alleged corruption. Shajahan said he viewed his efforts as a continuation of the anti-corruption campaign initiated by Achuthanandan.

Referring to the court’s direction concerning the registration of an FIR against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and others in connection with the Exalogic controversy, Shajahan said Achuthanandan would have been pleased had he been alive to witness the development. He maintained that a campaign begun years ago, but left incomplete, had now reached a crucial stage.

Shajahan said his fight was not driven by personal animosity towards Vijayan but by his opposition to corruption. He also said he had faced considerable difficulties over the years while pursuing the matter and reiterated that his objective was to ensure accountability.

The developments have raised questions about the potential political implications for Vijayan, his daughter Veena Vijayan and other individuals named in allegations linked to the Exalogic transaction. The course of the legal proceedings and any findings emerging from an investigation will be crucial in determining the consequences of the case.

The issue could also pose a political challenge for the CPI(M), particularly in how the party responds to allegations involving the Chief Minister’s family. However, the extent to which the case may affect the party’s internal dynamics or leadership remains uncertain.

Shajahan has said that he continues to follow the political principles he learnt while working closely with Achuthanandan. He recalled that the veteran leader’s opposition to corruption had shaped his own approach to public life.

According to Shajahan, his campaign is not directed against any particular individual, political party or government. Instead, he said, it is intended to challenge corruption and the misuse of power, irrespective of who is in office.

He also maintained that he would continue the fight despite the personal difficulties it might entail. For Shajahan, the central principle remains that those in positions of authority must be answerable under the law.

The legal developments surrounding the Exalogic case have therefore brought renewed attention to Shajahan’s long-running campaign and its political significance. Whether the proceedings lead to further legal action, and what implications they may have for Vijayan and the CPI(M), will depend on the subsequent course of the case.

Shajahan said he would continue to uphold the values associated with Achuthanandan’s anti-corruption campaign, stressing that political influence should not place anyone beyond scrutiny.
