BJP Launches Early Lok Sabha Push in Kerala, Assigns Top Leaders to High-Priority Seats

Thiruvananthapuram, July 29: With only months remaining before the Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has stepped up its organisational preparations in Kerala by focusing on constituencies it considers electorally promising. The party’s central leadership has assigned senior leaders to oversee campaign activities in six strategically important parliamentary seats, signalling an early and structured election push.
The constituencies identified as priority “A-Plus” seats are Thiruvananthapuram, Attingal, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, and Thrissur. Party sources indicate that the objective is to strengthen the organisational network down to the booth level well ahead of the election schedule.
State BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar has been entrusted with organisational responsibility for the Thiruvananthapuram constituency, while former state president K. Surendran will lead preparations in Attingal. In Thrissur, Union Minister Suresh Gopi continues to be the party’s principal face and is expected to play a central role in the campaign.
In Alappuzha, senior BJP leader Sobha Surendran is widely expected to be fielded once again as the party’s Lok Sabha candidate. According to party sources, her previous electoral performance and organisational presence in the constituency have strengthened her prospects for renomination.
For Pathanamthitta, BJP state general secretary Anoop Antony has been assigned organisational responsibility. Party insiders said he has been relieved of his responsibilities as Yuva Morcha in-charge to enable him to concentrate fully on election preparations. In Kollam, B.B. Gopakumar has been given organisational charge and is also considered a potential candidate.
Meanwhile, indications suggest that former Union Minister V. Muraleedharan is unlikely to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election. If he stays out of the electoral fray, party sources believe he could be considered for a significant organisational role at the national level as part of the BJP’s restructuring exercise.
The party has also assigned new responsibilities to state vice-president P. Sudheer to intensify organisational activities, particularly in Thiruvananthapuram. Regional meetings and consultations involving state general secretaries and vice-presidents have been accelerated as the BJP seeks to build momentum for its election campaign.
Responding to recent allegations regarding election fund utilisation, Rajeev Chandrasekhar rejected the accusations, describing them as baseless and alleging that sections of the media were carrying out a coordinated campaign against the party. He expressed confidence that the people of Kerala would reject what he termed “unfounded allegations.”
Beyond digital outreach, the BJP leadership has decided to focus on strengthening its grassroots organisation, with booth-level mobilisation emerging as a key pillar of its strategy for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
