Ganesh Kumar Backs CM V.D. Satheesan, Launches Scathing Attack on NSS General Secretary Sukumaran Nair

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Minister K.B. Ganesh Kumar has strongly defended Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan while launching a sharp attack on Nair Service Society (NSS) General Secretary G. Sukumaran Nair, triggering fresh political debate in the State.
Accusing the NSS leadership of displaying authoritarian tendencies, Ganesh Kumar said there was no place for dictatorship in a socio-cultural organisation and urged its leadership to show greater respect and openness. “Dictators eventually fall, wherever they are,” he remarked, using the analogy that “once a marble is pushed into a soda bottle, it can only be removed by breaking the bottle.”
The Minister also alleged that the NSS constitution was being kept out of public view, claiming he had tried unsuccessfully to obtain a copy. He further demanded that the memorial shrine of Mannath Padmanabhan should remain accessible to everyone and not be treated as an exclusive place.
Extending unequivocal support to the Chief Minister, Ganesh Kumar said V.D. Satheesan had never insulted the NSS or the Nair community and had always acted in the larger public interest. Describing Satheesan as a close friend, he expressed confidence that he would be remembered as one of Kerala’s finest Chief Ministers.
Responding to the criticism, NSS General Secretary G. Sukumaran Nair dismissed Ganesh Kumar’s remarks, saying the Minister was neither a representative of the organisation nor someone associated with it. He also defended the organisation’s leadership and referred to Ganesh Kumar’s earlier removal from the NSS director board following allegations related to a taluk union.
The exchange has sparked political speculation, with observers closely watching whether Ganesh Kumar’s recent public positions indicate a shift in his political stance. However, there has been no official indication that the Minister is planning to leave the Left Democratic Front (LDF) or join the United Democratic Front (UDF).
