Thiruvananthapuram: The sacred chant, “Sri Rama Jaya Rama Jaya Jaya Rama,” echoed across Kerala as the Malayalam month of Karkidakam commenced today, marking the beginning of the annual Ramayana Month. Homes and temples throughout the state have begun the recitation of the Adhyatma Ramayanam, filling the atmosphere with devotion and the remembrance of Lord Rama.
Karkidakam holds a unique place in Kerala’s spiritual tradition. It is widely believed that the reading of the Ramayana during this month offers strength to overcome life’s hardships, instills righteousness, and nurtures inner peace. Families gathering together each day to recite the Ramayana and chant the holy name of Lord Rama has remained a cherished tradition for generations.
Special prayers, Ramayana recitations, devotional singing, and spiritual discourses have begun at Sri Rama temples across the state. From the early hours of the morning, devotees gathered in large numbers to participate in the observances. In countless homes, lamps were lit and the sacred text was ceremonially placed for daily recitation throughout the month.
Spiritual scholars describe the life of Maryada Purushottama Sri Rama as the eternal embodiment of truth, righteousness, sacrifice, compassion, and ideal living. As Kerala enters this sacred month of devotion and introspection, devotees pray that the divine name of Lord Rama may illuminate every heart with peace, faith, and spiritual strength.
“Ramaya Ramabhadraya Ramachandraya Vedhase,
Raghunathaya Nathaya Sitayah Pataye Namah.”
