High-Stakes Showdown in West Bengal: Final Phase Voting Tomorrow Under Heavy Security

Election 1

Kolkata: West Bengal is set for the second and final phase of voting tomorrow, covering 142 constituencies across 7 districts, in what is expected to be a निर्णായക moment in the state’s political battle. A massive 32.17 million voters are eligible to cast their ballots, including over 15.7 million women and 792 transgender voters.

One of the most closely watched constituencies is Bhabanipur, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee faces off against BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, making it a high-stakes contest.

The voting will take place largely in regions that were strongholds of the ruling All India Trinamool Congress during the last election. While the Trinamool Congress is banking on its dominance in these areas, the Bharatiya Janata Party is hopeful that recent voter list revisions could tilt the balance in its favor.

In light of recent incidents of violence, authorities have deployed heavy security across polling areas to ensure smooth and peaceful मतदान.

The first phase witnessed an impressive 93% voter turnout, with the BJP claiming it could secure over 110 seats out of 152 contested in that round. Top leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Amit Shah had actively campaigned in the state ahead of this crucial phase.

The vote counting is scheduled for May 4, when the fate of key political players will be decided.
